The climate at Schanskraal allows it to be enjoyed thoughout the year


The numerous outdoor activities that take place include:

Game drives and 4 x 4 trails over 60km of farm roads and tracks.

Guided walks and hiking around the hills with two overnight cabins (sleep 6) with a GPS Trail.

Clay target shooting (guided by a CTSASA member), mountain biking, horse riding, bird watching and star gazing.

From April to July each year, under the watchful eye of one of South Africa’s leading wing shooting experts, organised shooting parties can be arranged for the careful and structured shooting of the famous and sought after Grey Wing, found on the Estate.

Schanskraal is also home to the Welbech Arabian Stud, breeders of top endurance horses, where horseback riding and organised trail rides can be enjoyed.

The outdoor pursuits and opportunities at Schanskraal also attract interest from the Army and Air Force, for their practice manoevres and aeronautical Clubs also come to enjoy our impressive landscapes.

There are examples of San (Bushman) rock art on Schanksraal and sites believed to be related to their religion.

The South African 160km Endurance Riding Championships held at Schanskraal in 2012 & 2013.

In 2012 and 2013, we had the privilege of hosting The South African International 160km Endurance Riding Championships during the Schanskraal FEI *** Ride. A foremost annual event attracting a high level of competition and attendance with riders coming from as far afield as Namibia and New Zealand to compete.
